We combine your project state, site exposure, and eave height to place your project into one of four planning categories. This is not the final ASCE 7 design wind speed — it's a preliminary read to help you understand what to expect from engineering, pricing, and permitting.

Do I still need engineering if the tool says 'standard review'?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every steel building sold by Iron Forge Buildings ships with engineer-stamped drawings sealed for the permit jurisdiction. This tool is a planning-stage classifier; the final design wind speed, wind pressures, exposure category, and risk category are set by the licensed engineer of record for your specific site.

Why does site exposure matter so much?

Accepted Answer

Wind pressure on a building depends heavily on the surrounding terrain. Open farmland (Exposure C) and coastal / open-water sites (Exposure D) see substantially higher pressures than suburban sites (Exposure B) at the same wind speed. Two identical buildings a mile apart can have very different structural designs.

Does the tool submit anything or run a credit check?

Accepted Answer

No. The wind lookup runs entirely in your browser and does not submit any information. The optional project-review form at the bottom of the page is the only place data is sent, and only when you choose to share it.
